Mera Chemicals was founded 1997 and has over 20 years’ experience in research and product development within many different industries. We are one of the largest manufacturers of antifoam and defoamers in Australia.
Our rapid growth and success is due to the extensive experience of our employees providing the highest manufacturing quality and local technical solutions for our customers in Australia. We pride ourselves on quick response to customer requests and provide local solution for local problems.
It is common for our research and development team to fine tune our commercial formulations to solve specific and unique application problems.

Dr. John Stavrakis
Dr John Stavrakis is the Managing and Technical Director of Mera Chemicals Pty Ltd, JMS Chemicals Pty and GMPJ Pty Ltd
Field of study is in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, completed at the University of Melbourne – (Bachelor of Science (BSc) Hon. PhD.)
John began Mera Chemicals in 1997 with the vision to grow the company into a major local and international supplier of formulated solutions. Today the company is on it’s way to expanding its export opportunities as well as the continuation of dominating the defoamer market in Australia. The success so far would not be possible without the constant dedication of the Mera Chemicals team, who ensure we offer the utmost exceptional customer service to all our clients.
Angela Sorpreso
Financial Director (BBus(Acc), BA)
Angela is an experienced financial leader with a strong track record in strategic financial management, corporate finance, and business operations. She oversees Mera Chemicals’ financial direction, supporting sustainable growth through robust financial planning, risk management, and governance.
With broad expertise spanning finance, HR, and organisational development, Angela plays a key role in aligning financial performance with operational strategy. She is recognised for her commercial acumen, analytical insight, and ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable outcomes that support business decision-making.
Peter Gabriele
Business Operations Manager
Peter is a highly motivated and enthusiastic leader with extensive experience in navigating challenging situations and solving complex problems. He has a proven track record of building strong relationships and collaborating with teams to achieve business goals and desired outcomes. His experience includes successfully managing high-performing teams and mentoring future leaders. Peter’s leadership will play a key role in driving efficiency and innovation as we continue to grow.
Esta De Araugo
Quality Manager
Field of study – Bachelor of Applied Science (BAppSci), (double degree) majoring in Chemistry and Environmental Science.
Esta is a highly energic professional, bringing passion to her work environment.
She has an extensive industry experience and brings to Mera invaluable industry knowledge.
Samaneh Safarkhanlo
Production Quality Control Chemist (R&D)
Samaneh holds a Master of Science in Nanobiotechnology and a Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology. She has a strong background in laboratory analysis, chemical formulation, and quality control across research and clinical environments.
Her experience includes advanced hydrogel development and pharmaceutical applications, with hands-on involvement in research and development, analytical testing, and instrumentation. Samaneh supports Mera’s production and quality functions with a focus on accuracy, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Dr. Richard Bos
R&D Chemist
Dr Richard Bos is a Research and Development Chemist at MERA Chemicals. Pty Ltd.
Richard Completed his BSc (Hons) and PhD at Deakin University. He has worked in a variety of roles, including as a University Lecturer, production management and more recently in a research and development capacity in the pharmaceutical industry. He enjoys working with the MERA team to develop bespoke specialty products to assist customers in solving production problems.
